Stillwater’s Bennett Baldwin – Stillwater Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Jeff Bryant Shelter Insurance

By Derrick Smith

There are a lot of things that go into helping an athlete become the best they can be at their sport or sports. The first is they have to be willing to put in the work to continually improve their game. Another would be that they have to mentally prepare themselves. For Bennett Baldwin, something else has helped him become the golfer that he is today.

“Having a true love for the game of golf has really helped me along the way,” Bennett said. “I have also put in a lot of hard work and practice, but having that love for the game is what pushes you on.”

A senior at Stillwater High School, Baldwin has played golf for six seasons. During those years, he has made some great memories, but he says one accomplishment really stood out for him.

“The biggest moment for me was winning Regionals for Stillwater High School for the first time in twenty years,” he said. “It was a great experience and a great feeling. Also, during my career, I have hit two hole-in-ones, which is pretty special to me.”

Bennett says that he has had a lot of people that have made impacts on his life over the years, but there is one person that stands out. “My dad would have to be the biggest influence on my life,” he said. “He has taught me so much about hard work ethic and having to earn things rather than having them given to you. He has also taught me how to be respectful and appreciate the things I have in life. He is also my best friend.”

Larry Hesler, Algebra and Statistics teacher at Stillwater High School, also made a difference in Bennett’s life. “His class was my first really challenging class and I learned a lot,” Baldwin said. “I had to push myself to do well and Mr. Hesler was always available when I needed help.”

Along with playing golf, Bennett is also a member of the Beta Club and the National Honor Society.
