OFFENSE

The Perry Maroons enter the 2021 season ready to improve on last season, where they went 5-4 and lost in the first round of the playoffs. Head coach Travis Cole says while they lost a lot, he is looking for those that will step up. “We will be very young this season,” he said. “We have a lot of talent that will need to gain experience in a hurry. Summer preparations and preseason are going to be big for us.” One player that is stepping up will be Jake Thomas (6-1, 160, Jr.), who will be starting at quarterback. The only returning offensive lineman will be two-year starter Charlie Gilbreath (6-1, 170, Sr.), who will be depended on to be an anchor for the line. While he will be new at the position, Thomas will have multiple weapons to use. Running back Caden Hall (6-0, 180, Sr.), wide receivers Dylan Hight (6-1, 165, Sr) and Dez Williams (5-9, 150, Jr.), and tight end Justin Venard (6-2, 175, Sr.)

DEFENSE

The Maroons will have a few starters that will start on both sides of the ball. Hall will also see time at strong safety, Hight will play cornerback, Vernard will swap between defensive end and outside linebacker, and Williams will also play free safety. Cole says that they are switching defenses to get help where it is needed most. “We are looking to switch to 3-4 defense,” he said. “We want to maximize our skill guys and help with our limited depth up front.” Helping to fill spots on the defensive line will be Ethan Hughes (6-0, 175, Jr.) and Chris Ryan (5-10, 230, So.).
