Cushing’s Logan Spradlin – Athlete Spotlight Presented by Cushing Family Practice

By Derrick Smith

The Covid-19 pandemic that hit a couple of years ago affected the lives of so many people in one way or another including the lives of many high school athletes across the country. Logan Spradlin had his track season disrupted but he made the best of it.

“I would have to say that the highlight moment of my career was when my track season got cancelled my freshman year,” he recalled. “I basically restarted my sophomore year and went all the way to state for pole vault and got eleventh place, beating my personal record three times. So I guess I made the best out of a bad situation.”

Logan is a junior at Cushing High School. He is a shooting guard as a member of the basketball team and a pole vaulter on the track team.

Jontue Ezell, the boys’ basketball coach at Cushing, says that Logan is a great all-around kid.

“Logan is a team-first guy all the way,” coach said. “He is always ready to do whatever he can to help the team. He does a lot of things that do not show up in the stat book. He is a great kid.”

When Spradlin thinks about role models that he looks up to, there is one person that immediately jumps to the front of his mind.

“I would have to say that my biggest role model is Kobe Bryant,” he said. “I mention him because of his mamba mentality and that helps me when I play my sports.”

Someone else that has had an influence on Logan’s life would be one of his teachers at Cushing.

“Joshua Encinas was my anatomy teacher,” Logan recalled. “He made learning fun and helped me whenever I needed it.”

Whether it is basketball or track, Logan says that he has put in a lot of work and effort to be his best.

“It has taken me a lot of grinding in each sport, both physically and mentally, to get where I am today.”
