Perry’s Kellan Ehlers – Athlete Spotlight Presented by Stillwater Medical Perry

Throughout an athlete’s life there are people that can have an influence on not only what kind of athlete they become but also the kind of person they turn out to be. Kellan Ehlers has had a number of people like this in his life, but says there is one person that has made a bigger impact than the rest.

“Coach Ward, my head coach, is definitely the biggest role model for me,” he said. “He always shows up no matter what the conditions are. He helps me work to be the best athlete and person that I can be.”

Ehlers, a senior at Perry High School, plays catcher, pitcher, and first base for the Maroons. He has played baseball for most of his life and says over that time, while he has had some great moments, there is one moment that stands out as his favorite. And for good reason.

“By far, the greatest moment of my sports career so far has been signing to play college baseball at Kansas Wesleyan University” he said. ” I love the game of baseball and have always dreamed of playing at the next level, so getting that opportunity is definitely fulfilling a dream that I’ve had.”

It was not luck that secured the scholarship for Ehlers. Instead, he has put in many hours of work to prepare himself.

“I have spent many hours at practice, the cages, and just throwing the ball around to help me become the best baseball player that I can be!”

Perry High School head baseball coach, Weston Ward, says that Ehlers is an all-around great kid on and off the field.

“Kellen can play multiple positions on the field,” Ward said. “He has worked hard to prepare for his senior season of baseball. His efforts have allowed him to commit to play college baseball. He is a great leader for our team, both by example and word-of-mouth.”

Along with playing sports, Ehlers is also a member of the National Honor Society, the Rotary Lions Club, gifted and talented, and the interact club.
