Depew’s Haley Langston – Army National Guard Spotlight

Depew High School senior Haley Langston is the current senior class president and a four-year member of the varsity cheer team. Serving as president and being part of the cheer squad are not the only activities Langston has been involved in over her four years of high school.

“I have been a baseball manager for two-years, powerlifting for three-years, FFA officer for three-years, and a student council secretary,” said Langston.

This summer Langston will embark on a new journey with the Oklahoma Army National Guard.

“I decided to join the military a little over a year ago, but I didn’t enlist until November of 2021. I’ve known I wanted to do some kind of military service, but the National Guard gave me an opportunity to go to college and stay in my home state near my family,” said Langston.

While serving in the National Guard Langston will work as a 92G or Culinary Specialist.

“I have a long history of family serving in the military with my Aunt Brandie being Air Force and my Uncle Chris just recently retired from the U.S. Army,” said Langston.

For this senior, the recruiting process was relatively easy thanks to her recruiter.

“The recruiting process was really easy and efficient for me. I listened to Staff Sergeant Williams talk at my school on a Monday, I went to his office the next Wednesday with my mom to sign some paperwork, and by that time the next week I had been sworn into the Oklahoma Army National Guard,” said Langston.
Serving her state and the nation is exciting for Langston. She will also have the opportunity to attend college and complete her degree.

“I will be using the GOLD program, G.I. Bill and Kicker to help further my education in college,” said Langston. “I can’t wait to get the opportunity to help my community through some possible hardships like natural disasters.”

In her free time, Langston said she enjoys reading, riding her horses, spending time with family and helping at her church.
