Stillwater’s Amy Reavis – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Jeff Bryant of Shelter Insurance

By Derrick Smith

Practice is an important part of any athlete reaching their full potential. But some athletes take the next step and get extra help to take their game to the next level. Amy Reavis plays golf for Stillwater High School and says that one important part of her success has been finding a coach to help with her swing.

“It has taken a lot of practice to be successful,” she said. “One key to my success is having my swing coach, Chris Tidland at Stillwater Country Club, who helps with my swing to make sure I am practicing the right things.  Sometimes practicing isn’t fun and feels like a waste of time, but it’s absolutely necessary.  A golfer’s swing can change so much in a short amount of time, so practice and concentrating on your swing as well as chipping and putting really keeps up your game.”

As a freshman, Reavis is second bag on the varsity golf team at Stillwater. Golf has been a part of Amy’s life for quite some time. She says that qualifying for a big tournament has been the highlight of her career so far.

“I qualified to play in the US Kids World Championship Tournament in Pinehurst, North Carolina two years in a row,” she said. “I played my lowest round up to that point in a very competitive environment and at a beautiful, famous, and challenging golf course.  It was such an amazing experience for me and my family.”

Another aspect of golf for Reavis is meeting people and building relationships.

“I have golf friends all over Oklahoma and we see each other at tournaments during school, in the summer, and in the fall.  It is always fun to see people I’ve met over the years and to catch up with them, including learning more about their interests outside of golf. “

Outside of sports, Reavis is also a member of the Beta Club and the yearbook staff. She also enjoys spending time on social media and she has a favorite person to follow.

“My favorite person on social media is probably Brandon Farris,” she said. “I think he is absolutely hilarious, and he always makes me laugh.”
