Cushing’s Kolby Legg – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Cushing Family Practice at Stillwater Medical

By Derrick Smith

High school students can have any number of people that they look up to as role models. And they can range from celebrities to musicians to political figures to many others. High school athletes are no different. Though most of theirs are usually in the professional or collegiate sports world, Kolby Legg says that his biggest role models are a lot closer to home.

“The biggest influences in my life are my parents,” he said. “They have sacrificed a lot for me to be successful in whatever I choose to do. They are also my biggest fans.”

Legg is a junior at Cushing High School where he is a member of the golf team. He says that there has been a lot of hard work that he has put in to get where he is, but he knows that it is worth it.

“It has taken a lot of talent and hard work in order for me to be successful at golf,” he said. “It may not always be easy to get out and practice but winning and just being the best that I can is something that motivates me to put in the work. I think that work is really going to pay off this season as I feel like I have a good shot to win state this year in golf in Class 4A.”

While he is looking forward to a solid postseason this year, he says that he has already seen the benefits of all the hard work he has put in.

“The highlight moment of my career was getting invited to play in the Oklahoma Junior Masters,” he stated. “Only the top 36 players are invited so it was a huge honor.”

Working on his game with his teammates is one way that Legg works on getting better.

“I like all of my teammates,” he said. “But I think I battle with Gavin Burton the most when we are practicing. He and I are really close in skill level so that makes our matches closer and it helps us become better players.”
