Perkins – Tryon Addi Brown – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Perkins Primary Care

By Derrick Smith

Throughout an athlete’s career, they can experience a lot of moments that stick with them or help shape their career. These could be personal achievements or milestones or team accomplishments. Addison Brown is a junior at Perkins-Tryon High School and she says that her favorite memory is when she and her teammates competed at a high level.

“I think that the highlight moment of my career so far was playing in the slowpitch state tournament my sophomore year,” she stated. “We won two games and went to the state championship. It was great.”

Brown plays slowpitch and fastpitch softball for the Demons. Outside of sports, she is also a member of the National Honor Society, the National Technical Honor Society, and Health Occupations Students of America organization.

As a student, Addison says that the teacher that has made the biggest impact on her life is someone she knows very well.

“The teacher that has had the biggest impact on me would be my dad,” she said. “He has been my teacher and coach. He is harder on me than the rest of the class and I feel that I need to work harder in front of him. I also like to prove him wrong when he says I can’t do something. My entire family keeps me motivated to work hard on and off the field. I do not want to disappoint them so that helps me to work harder.”

While she has put in a lot of work to become the athlete that she is, Addison knows that her teammates have helped her grow as well.

“There are two of my teammates that I appreciate going up against in practice,” she said. “Ashley Larson and Taylor Stanley because they have high expectations for themselves and others,” she said. “They both are not afraid to call you out but they can also take being called out. The least appreciated part of our team is the outfielders. As a group they are not seen as major game changers. They are just expected to make catches and if they have an error it results in extra bases. They have made some great plays this season and will be a big part of our success.”
