Blackwell sophomore Adisyn Peetoom has been playing softball for the majority of her life.

“My mom played when she was younger and my older sister, Chandler, has played since I was like one,” she says. “I was just raised on it since I was little. I was always at the softball field with my sister and my mom.”

Adisyn, who also goes by Adi, has
enjoyed playing with her sister.

“It’s pretty fun,” she says. “She plays first base, so we are always in the infield together.”

While playing with her sister has been a highlight, Peetoom says it’s the thought of playing college that really motivates her.

“I’ve always wanted to go to college and play softball,” Peetoom says. “Colleges can’t talk to players until their junior year, but I’ve been to quite a few college camps, which has been good.”

Peetoom, who pitches and plays shortstop for the Maroon Spirit, knows softball is as much mental as it physical and that her attitude in the circle is key for her teammates.

“You have to have a good attitude because your team feeds off of that, especially early in the game,” she says.

“I usually try to stay cool, calm, and collected. But I do show more energy after a strikeout. We like to make strikeouts a bigger deal.”

On the field, Peetoom would like to see her individual numbers improve but it’s the team goals that are more important for Peetoom.

“I want to have more strikeouts and less walks,” she says. “But one of our biggest things is to have fun as a team. Last year it almost seemed like a chore to be out there. That’s what you got from us. This year we just want to have more fun.”

Peetoom credits Blackwell’s seniors for helping build the team chemistry this year.

“We are a young team this year,” she says. “Our seniors, my sister Chandler and Brittni Brewer, have fun with us. They aren’t bossy seniors and really lead well.”

Off the diamond, Peetoom is involved with FFA, student council, and pep club. Following high school, Peetoom wants to play college softball and coach.
