Chandler Athlete Spotlight – Ty Garver – Presented by Thompson’s Insurance Agency

Ty Garver is a multisport athlete at Chandler High School. As a member the football, powerlifting, and track teams, he knows that it takes a lot of work in order to be his best when the competition time comes.

“I started lifting weights and playing football at a young age,” he said. “I’ve sacrificed a lot of my time for sports because I’ve always wanted to play at the next level. That is really how I keep myself motivated, my desire to play in college, but also to be successful in the classroom as well.”

Garver, a sophomore, has seen the hard work pay off but he is not satisfied with where he is.

“I won a freshman state powerlifting championship and ran a 4.53 forty this summer,” Ty stated. “My goals are to get faster, win Class 2A a couple of times, and win high school powerlifting championships with state-record squats.”

There have been people that have cheered for and supported Ty throughout his career. But he says that there are a few that have been pivotal in his athletic career.

“My Dad, Justin White, and Brandon Cummings are all role models for me,” he said. “They are great coaches and I enjoy being around them during practice and outside of football. All my coaches try to make us better men. My teammate, Stefaun Mackey, is the guy I like working against the most because he’s a senior who has been a four-year starter for Chandler and he pushes me every day. Corbin Hollon is a guy that is always ready to do whatever he can to help our team. He is a role player for our offense. He can go in during games when someone’s tired or injured and he also pushes me every day at practice.”

Being able to wear the Chandler uniform is something that Ty does not take for granted and he is proud to help promote his school and community.

“I love to represent my school and town with our football team because football is a tough sport and I want Chandler be known as a tough community.”
