Depew Hornets Girls Basketball Preview – Presented by Cushing Family Practice Stillwater Medical Clinic

Coach: Jacob Russel

21-22 Record: 22-4

Last season the Depew Hornets had a fantastic season finishing with a 22-4 record and making their first appearance in the area tournament since 2008. They return four starters from the lineup and are looking to build off of last year’s success. Lauren Carrie (Jr.) is a VYPE Top 100 Nominee and last season averaged 10.2 points. This year she will be looked upon as the team leader and command the offense from the point guard role. Carrie has spent a lot of time in the offseason and outside of practice to expand her game and looks to take the next step in her development this year.

Lillian Thatcher (Sr.) has a solid frame and does all the dirty work down low in the post. Thatcher is always hustling to loose balls and is a tenacious rebounder. While she is primarily posted up down low she can play any position when asked to do so and always plays with an unselfish mindset. Thatcher always puts the team first and in the best position to succeed.

Katrina Ash (Jr.) is a threat from deep and last year led the Hornets in three-point shooting while averaging around 10 points per game. Sam Peeler (Jr.) is expected to have a bigger role this season and is another hustle player that flies around the court defensively. Peeler is a tremendous rebounder and can back down opponents and score down low in the post.

Morgan Steele (Jr.) is a defensive minded player who has expanded her offensive game and will look to get more scoring opportunities this season. Kady Rodman (Sr.) suffered an ACL injury last season in the playoffs, back and healthy, she will be a leader for the Hornets and led Depew in steals a year ago. Her return will be very much appreciated for the Lady Hornets.

Other players to look for include: Ashley Hall (Jr.), Lillian Ingram (Jr.), Brooklyn Kershman (Jr.), Ava Freeze (So.), Addyson Hunter (So.), and Gara Proctor (So.).
