The Lady Demons of Perkins-Tryon High School are off to a great start to the softball season. Graysen Stanley, an outfielder, along with her teammates have only allowed four runs to be scored in seven games while scoring 65 runs of their own.
Stanley said she loves playing with this team because they are positive, and the coaching staff keeps everyone ready to play.
“The thing I love most is how well everyone works together and gets along. Everyone constantly picks each other up which is so important in a game of failures. The girls never fail to keep a smile on my face. My coaches mesh really well with us too, always keeping us motivated and upbeat while still being honest and pushing us to be a little better every day,” said Stanley.
Since the age of four, Stanley has called the softball field home. Her first team was a T-ball team called the Red Bulls when she was in pre-kindergarten. Now a varsity player, Stanley is usually in centerfield, but has played other positions while playing for the high school team.
Expectations are up for this team and Stanley believes they are ready to meet the challenges.
“I expect to go far this year, with state being the ultimate goal. We’re solid all around so I’m excited to see what kind of run we can make and surprise some people,” said Stanley.
Away from the softball field, Stanley is involved in Student Council as well as National Honor Society. She is a willing volunteer for whatever they need at school. Once she has graduated, Stanley has big plans for her future.
“After high school I’m going to attend Southern Nazarene University in Bethany Oklahoma and continue to play softball there. After that I plan on attending grad school to be an occupational therapist and hopefully have my own business one day,” said Stanley.
In her free time, the centerfielder never stops thinking about or playing the sport she loves.
“Honestly I am typically doing something with softball. Between school softball and travel softball it keeps me busy year-round, but I love it. On my off days I really just like to relax and hangout with my friends or spend time with family,” said Stanley.
