Brady Wicker is a junior golfer at Ponca City High School. Wicker grew up playing baseball most of his life and was set on becoming a college baseball player. However, his middle school and junior high didn’t have baseball in the spring. So, Wicker asked his dad if he could play on the golf team for a semester before getting back into baseball the following year.

“That’s when I figured out I was hooked on golf,” Wicker said. “Ever since then, I’ve been on the course around six days a week, if not every day, and my score just continues to go lower and lower.”

Wicker has started all four years since his freshman season, improving 10 strokes since he started taking up golf four years ago. Wicker’s favorite highlight of his career thus far was when he shot a 69 at Owasso’s Bailey Ranch to get three under after the first day of the tournament. 

“This was a big highlight for me since I’ve never shot below the 70s in a tournament, and it’s been a huge goal for me in the past,” Wicker said. “After scoring a round like that, it just excited me about the game even more, and just showed myself what I’m actually capable of doing in this game.”

Wicker’s favorite golfers are Brooks Koepka and Tiger Woods, who both have shown Wicker what it’s going to take to continue improving.

“You have to put in the hours,” Wicker said. “It takes a lot of time to become the best player you can be. With golf being one of the hardest sports, it takes a ton of those hours to get good. There is just so much going on, whether it’s something with your technique, mentality, focus, intensity, etc.”

Outside of athletics, Wicker is involved in student council and NHS. Upon graduation, Wicker wants to continue playing golf and major in architectural engineering to open up his own construction business one day.
