Standing tall at six foot three and and nearly three hundred pounds senior offensive lineman Peyton Jones is a menace in the trenches for the Blackwell Maroons on the offensive line. Coaches speak highly of Jones on and off the field as a team leader as he brings a veteran presence to the field. For Jones there are several qualities required to be a successful football player.
“I think they have to be responsible, respectful, dependable, and trustworthy,” Jones said. “They also must be willing to help and be dedicated.”
Jones is a football player through and through.
“I have played football my entire life,” Jones said. “I started in Pre-K or kindergarten.”
One of Jones’s favorite aspects of the sport is bonds that he is able to form with his teammates and the camaraderie that the sport provides.
“Being able to play with your friends and make it not only a team but a family,” Jones said.
While Jones strives for success on the field he is also dedicated and committed to his education.
“My goals this year are to get a scholarship for football or academics,” Jones said. “I want to keep grades at straight A’s.”
Jones often turns to his faith for inspiration.
“The one person that inspires me and I look up to is Jesus Christ,” Jones said.
As the season progresses Jones is looking to end his senior campaign on a high note. One game on the schedule he always looks forward to is the matchup against Tonkawa.
“I am very excited to play Tonkawa,” Jones said. “They have always been a rival so that game is always the one that gets me going.”
As Jones is wrapping up his high school career he’s already looking ahead to the future.
“After high school my plan is to play football in college,” Jones said. “Or be a police officer.”
