High school athletes play many games in a variety of environments throughout their careers. Throughout that time, they collect a lot of memories of things that happen while they are competing. Perry’s Kennedy Hight has a couple of memories that stand out for the impact that they had on her.

“The highlight moment of my career would have to be winning the state championship in the 400-meter dash in back-to-back years,” she stated. “It was a great feeling to see my hard work pay off. Another would be when we won the first game at the basketball state tournament in program history for Perry.”

A junior at Perry High School, Hight plays softball and basketball and also runs track. Away from her athletics, she is a part of the student council and the National Honor Society.

While she loves to compete, Kennedy says that there is a bigger responsibility when you compete as a member of your school.

“Representing my school and community is something that I love doing,” she said. “My community and school have an amazing support system and with all of their support, I want to do my best to represent them the best way I can so being successful and making them proud is really important to me.”

There has been a lot of personal investment of time and effort from Hight in order to become the athlete that she is. Though it can get tough at times, she does a great job of keeping herself focused.

“Hard work and a positive mindset are what it has taken for me to be successful,” she said. “Playing three sports and wanting to be the best at all of them is a grind so I always tell myself to work as hard as I can even if I don’t want to because that is what it takes to be successful.”

Something else that has helped Kennedy and her teammates to improve is their opponents. She says that there is one team that getting a win against means a little more.

“The opponent I enjoy beating the most is the Jones Longhorns. They are one of the best teams in the state of Oklahoma and beating them brings a lot of hype and a lot of joy.”
