Drake Hankins is a coach’s kid that loves the game of basketball. He has played many games throughout his career and has made some great memories. There is one game that stands out as his favorite.

“The highlight moment of my career so far happened when we were playing Waynoka last season,” he stated. “I ended the game with twenty-four points. It was a great feeling to know that I made that big of a contribution to the team.”

A sophomore at Blackwell High School, Hankins plays power forward and small forward for the Maroon’s basketball team. Throughout his time in the sport, Drake has invested a lot to get where he is, but he says he also has his teammates to thank.

“I have put in a lot of hard work in order to be successful,” he said. “You also have to be willing to put in work, even when no one else is watching. Charlie Lux is one of my teammates and probably the one I enjoy working against the most in practice. He makes me better and does not make anything easy. Another teammate that does a lot but doesn’t get the credit is Dorian Palma. He is one of the hardest working and most motivated people there is.”

Terril Hankins is the head coach of the Blackwell boy’s basketball team and he is also Drake’s father. He says that his son had a solid year as a freshman and looks to continue to grow this season.

“He is an outstanding three-point shooter,” the coach said. “Last season, he ended the year with over 50 three-pointers. He started every game last year and looks to continue to make an impact this season. He is a Christian young man, that is consistent in the classroom and on the floor. He is the perfect example of a student-athlete. He is a very respectful young man that is always trying to do the right thing. He is also a dependable young man.”
