Stillwater Athlete of the Month: Sarah Wulfert – Presented by Stillwater Women’s Clinic

By Chris Cox

Stillwater forward Sarah Wulfert is still getting used to her new teammates. The junior just moved to Stillwater this past summer and admits finding her role on the soccer team wasn’t always easy, but her teammates helped make the transition for her as smooth as possible.

“Playing with a new team has been hard but everyone here is super nice,” she says. “So, adjusting has been easy because as soon as I got here people were nice to me and would take me to lunch. So, it was pretty easy fitting in and being a part of the team.”

Sarah moved to Stillwater from New Mexico and, for the first time, will be playing soccer and running track at the same time.

“In New Mexico, track and soccer were different seasons but here they’re the exact same season,” she says. “Each sport used to help me out with the other sport but now there will be some challenges with them being at the same time. I’ll need to stay positive and not let being tired take over me. I will need to focus on two different things but treat them kind of like one.”

Wulfert, who runs the 100 and 200 meters, has big goals set for herself and her teammates in both sports.

“With soccer, I’d just love to just see how far we can go and try to get to state,” she says. “With track, I’d like to take at least third in state, but I’m really trying to win state in the 100. But we will just see how that goes when we get there.”

Outside of track and soccer, Sarah is involved with her church, Sunnybrook Christian Church.

“I’m a Christian and rely on my faith in everything that I do,” she says. “Because I have God, I’m able to push through criticism better and manage my emotions better. It helps a lot with frustration and being able to understand the differences in the players.”

Following graduation, Sarah plans on attending college.

“I’m not sure where I want to go to college yet,” she says. “But I do know I want to be a middle school teacher. I’d also like to run track in college if that opportunity presents itself.”
