Q&A with Ponca City’s Tootie Bales – Presented By Phillips 66

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

Tootie: Kristi Shaw, my longtime competitive cheer coach, because she’s successful yet humble, super competitive yet graceful, and tenacious yet beautiful. She’s not afraid to be herself and she inspires me to do the same.

VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing your sport?

Tootie: I started competitive cheer when I was five years old. My cousins all cheered for an amazing gym in Arkansas City, Kansas, and I eventually followed their lead. Plus, I really wanted that ACC uniform!

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Tootie: Discipline, responsibility, and dependability.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?

Tootie: The bonds/friendships formed over a common goal. We celebrate as a team and we cry as a team.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?

Tootie: Coach Williams, because he makes learning fun. He has an incredible ability to make history more epic than we ever thought it could be.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?

Tootie: I consider it an honor to put on the PCHS uniform and follow in the footsteps of all that did it before me. Wildcat traditions are dear to my heart and cheering on Coach Harmon’s Wildcats under the Friday night lights is an amazing feeling.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory of playing?

Tootie: Cheering under those Friday night lights with all my friends!

VYPE: What is your all-time favorite meal?

Tootie: The 10-piece McNuggets with a McDonald’s Sprite. It just hits differently!

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Tootie: A huge thanks to Coach Amie Huster for pushing me to be a better student, athlete, and human. I would also like to thank a lot of important people that pushed me on my journey: Coach Kristi, Coach Jay, Coach Brian, Coach Nina, Coach Chelsea, Coach Agee, Coach Rolo, Miss Fran, Coach Karissa, Coach Tony, Coach Sublett, AD Leavitt, and my amazing family and support system.
