VYPE: Where did you graduate high school? Did you play any sports?
Jamie: I graduated from Shidler High School where I played softball for six years.
VYPE: Tell us about your child/children – Name, grade in school, what sports they play, etc.
Jamie: My daughter, Ryleigh, is a senior at Ponca City High School. She is on the Ponca City golf team. She is the POHI DECA President and she is a part of the National Honor Society. She was accepted for a high school internship for Pediatric Occupational Therapy at The Children Therapy Zone this year. When Ryleigh is not working, she enjoys spending time playing golf with her loved ones, going wakeboarding at the lake, fishing, hunting, and her all-time favorite, shopping.
VYPE: What do you do for a living, and what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Jamie: I’m the Deputy Clerk for the City of Kaw City. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family, friends, and my four dogs. My family and I love being at the lake. Ryleigh and I spend lots of time in intense fishing competitions with each other wherever we go. We love lake, pond, and creek hopping, looking for our next bite. If we are not at the lake we are traveling to somewhere warm.
VYPE: How do you stay involved in your kid’s athletic careers, in or out of high school?
Jamie: I have been lucky to have the flexibility over the years to make it to most of Ryleigh’s lessons, games, and tournaments. With Ryleigh being my only child, I haven’t missed many of her extracurricular activities.
VYPE: Why do you think it is important to prioritize your kid’s activities, especially sports?
Jamie: Our family has always found it important to be involved in Ryleigh’s sporting activities. Our kids are only with us for a small amount of time, so make the most of it. It flies by. Ryleigh has always had quite the entourage of family support from the sidelines. Our family helps from working the gate to serving in the concession stand. No job is ever turned down when it comes to supporting Ryleigh.
VYPE: What is something you love about your kid’s school?
Jamie: Ponca City shows great support for its students and athletes. They offer a wide variety of extracurricular activities in Ponca City. The small businesses within the city do a great deal to support our children, making Ponca City a wonderful community to raise your children.
