Burt Miner is a senior at Ponca City High School where he is a member of the varsity track team. Winning is nothing new for Miner who was recently selected as the Ponca City poll winner. The senior competes in the 800, 1600, and the 3200-meters. He also serves in several organizations at PoHi.
“I am the president of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the representative of the Native American Heritage Club, and a member of our Student Athlete Advisory Council,” said Miner.
During his high school career, Miner has many memorable moments, but one stands out over them all.
“My favorite is when I got the triple crown [1st in all three of my events] at my last home track meet for my senior year,” said Miner.
In the classroom, Miner brings the same focus and work ethic he has on the track. His favorite subject is Sociology and his plans after high school include attending college and competing in cross country and track.
“My favorite subject is sociology, and my favorite teacher is coach Landes. She has been my teacher/coach since second grade. She is always there when I just need someone to talk to and she gives the best advice ever. I’m really going to miss her after I graduate,” said Miner. “After I graduate, I will be attending Haskell Indian Nations University to run cross country and track. I will be majoring in sports and recreational management.”
Miner said his family has been very supportive while competing.
“They push me to become the best athlete that I can be,” said Miner.
In his free time Miner said he enjoys running and hanging out with friends and family.
