Stillwater Academic Athlete: Callé Cox – Presented By Stillwater BancFirst

Callé Cox loves the game of softball and she has for a while. She still remembers the moment when she decided that softball was going to be her sport.

“When I was in third grade I went to visit my family,” she said. “My cousin Mikenna had a softball game so we went to cheer her on.  Before her game, she started playing catch with me and it was the first time I had even thrown a ball.  On the way home I told my mom that I wanted to play softball and that I had finally found my ‘thing after trying all different sports that just didn’t seem to be a good fit. I immediately loved softball and have every day since.”

A sophomore at Stillwater High School, Cox has grown more as a person than to playing softball.

“The game of softball has really helped me become the person I am because it makes me want to be better at everything,” Callé said. “Softball builds teamwork, discipline, dedication, and a strong mentality and it is just a lot of fun to be a part of something that you can contribute to with your friends.”

She is also involved in a number of other groups around campus, including the Beta Club and the National Junior Honor Society. She is also looking forward to the opportunity to be a part of SMAC (Stillwater Makes A Change) at the high school this year.

Being a member of a team is something else that drew her to softball. She says that her team is like a second family.

“One of my favorite things about being a part of a team is the relationships you build on and off the field,” she said. “The way that we push each other to be our best athletes and also represent ourselves off the field as well.  I love that we can depend on each other plus as a catcher the connection between me and my pitcher just really makes the game fun.”
