Stillwater’s Abby Terantino – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Stillwater Family Care

by Trina Walker

The value of high school sports goes beyond winning medals; young athletes learn to be team leaders. Abby Terantino, a junior at Stillwater High School says, “it’s not an individual sport, you have to trust the people you play with and celebrate their success as much as your own.”

Abby plays both volleyball and basketball but became “hooked” to volleyball as a freshman when she joined to play with her two best friends. “My favorite part of being on a team is the atmosphere, you feel like a family and you get really close not just in season but outside of school,” she said.

The sense of accomplishment after a big win or point gives Abby her passion for volleyball. Her best memories are of performing at her best against top teams. She recalls her club 16’s year traveling to Kansas City, where they played really well against incredible teams.

Abby’s parents inspire her. “They’ve always supported me through everything and have shown me what it is to be a good human through their actions,” she says. Abby is thankful to God for the opportunity to play at the level she does. She is also thankful to friends for their support and her coaches for helping her improve each season.

A big role model in her life is teammate, Sydnee Sisneros. “She is one of my favorite teammates ever to play with.” Last basketball season, Sydnee was a huge role model who led by example. Abby’s favorite teacher is Mrs. Will from first grade. “Mrs. Will has shown me kindness and love throughout my whole life,”Abby said.

The advice Abby lives by is to, “just be myself no matter what; your failures don’t define who you are as a person.”

In addition to athletics Abby is involved in Beta Club and SMAC.
