Malarie Mies plays softball for Blackwell High School. When she puts on the Maroons jersey, she knows that she is playing for more than just herself, and that is something she takes pride in. 
 “It is everything to me to be able to represent my school and community the best I can anytime I step on the field and play for Blackwell,” she said. 

A senior, Mies has played softball for Blackwell all four years of high school. Malaria mainly plays first base, but she also sees time at first and third bases. When she is not playing, she is also a member of the school’s Pep Club and she is also a mat maid for the wrestling team.

Throughout her life, Malaria has had people that have influenced her life and helped shape her into who she is. One of those is someone that has been in her corner since day one.

“My biggest role model is definitely my mom,” Mies said. “She has shown me that no matter the situation you can always be the better person. A teammate of mine that has been impactful to me is Brooklyn Ray because she always pushes me my hardest.”

Success has always been something that Mies works hard to achieve. And though there may be days when things are tough, she knows that she has to depend on those around her to help her.

“It has taken a lot of practice to become who I am,” she said. “Honestly, my team helps me stay motivated to work hard and give my best all the time.”

There have been a lot of memories that Malarie has made throughout her career. But she says that out of all of them, there is one thing that she enjoys the most.

“The highlight of my career has been playing softball with some of my friends,” she said. “And out of all the teams we play against, the one I enjoy beating the most is Tonkawa, where I used to go to school.”
