Sanaya Rabb loves the game of softball and she has worked hard to get to where she is today. She has also had the influence of someone incredibly close to her that has helped her become a successful athlete.
“You have to let go of other sports and activities,” she said. “You have to put in a lot of work over the years outside of just having a team practice. My mom has also played a big role in my life, both as an athlete and a person. She’s played the games herself and she knows what needs to go through my head in order for me to understand.”
Rabb is a senior at Ponca City High School, where she plays softball and soccer and also bowls. She is a member of a travel softball team outside of school and volunteers with the Special Olympics.
During her years of playing softball, Sanaya has made a lot of memories on and off the field with her teammates. And while she does not have one specific moment that stand out as her favorite, she does have some moments that she really enjoys.
“One of my favorite plays in a game is throwing out important runners,” she said. “For instance, if they are about to tie or win the game.”
As a catcher on the softball field, Rabb has someone else that plays that position as her favorite person to follow on social media.
“Kenzie Hansenis the catcher for the University of Oklahoma softball team,” she said. “She is also an amazing hitter. I like watching her and seeing what I need to do better.”
In the classroom at Ponca City, Sanaya has learned from a number of teachers but has one that she enjoyed the most.
“I think my favorite teacher was Daniel Wood, my freshman year Wildcat/History teacher,” she said. “He was also my softball coach. He wouldn’t let anything slide and honestly he pushed me how I didn’t know I needed to be.”
