Stillwater High School junior Kenzy Serna is a member of the varsity soccer team and a member of the FFA chapter. Serna got involved in FFA when she entered the 8th grade.
“I had no background working with animals or farm living before this other than going to rodeos in the Panhandle with my family. My 7th grade year the officer team came by the middle school to handout papers to us about ag and FFA. Seeing all the cool activities planned and how one of the officers, Austin Hooten, talked about it, I was extremely excited and encouraged to join,” said Serna.
Serna is now serving as a chapter officer herself.
“As a chapter officer, I try to stay involved as much as I can. I show animals, help my team plan activities and meetings for our chapter, and do as many public speaking contests as I can. Right now, I’m in ag issues and cannot wait to start competing. I enjoy getting to make new memories and constantly making new friends and lifelong connections not only in my chapter or neighboring chapters, but also other chapters around the country,” said Serna.
Showing her goats, Baylor and Beau is very rewarding for the junior. Like playing soccer, Serna is involved in other activities including choir, Beta Club, Key Club, and Sign Language Club. Serna said anyone interested in FFA should give it a try.
“Do it! FFA has given me the most wonderful opportunities and connections I could have ever dreamed of. There’s a place for everyone in FFA and be as involved as you can. Being involved in FFA has helped shape my future,” said Serna.
Serna plans to attend Oklahoma State University after high school where she plans to pursue a career in Veterinarian Medicine and Animal Sciences. Serna gives credit to her parents for their support
“My parents have been a huge influence on me my entire life. Watching how hard they have worked and how much they care for me and my siblings as well as everyone else around them, is truly outstanding and such an amazing thing to watch. They have been the best influences and have shaped me into the person I am today.”
