Stillwater’s Lauren Phillips – Soccer Spotlight – Presented by Jeff Bryant – Shelter Insurance Agency

By: Hunter Ferguson

Stillwater soccer player Lauren Phillips recently spoke with VYPE.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

My personal goals for this year are to gain confidence in my playing and to focus only in the good.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory was coming to practice after having a bad day and seeing my coach get out of his car with the biggest smile and then having one of the most fun practices.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

My teammate (and cousin) Karsen Cox has left the biggest impact on me because she has always pushes me to be my best, reminds me how fun soccer really is and always brings out the fun during hard practices.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part of being on this team is the experiences I get to make with all my teammates and being able to see all my friends and do something I love with them.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

I am in beta club because I like how many opportunities we get to give back to the community and help those who need it.

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

I am also in Young Life because I believe the only reason I am able to play soccer is because of God.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Soccer has definitely taught me that you have good days and you have bad days, but so does everyone else and you have yo work for what you want.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

The best advice that I have ever received is to play every game like it’s your last because you never know when an injury or something else could happen and coming off of a small injury that is a really big part of my playing now because I realized that I could’ve played my last game and not give my everything.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

My club coach Justin Elkington inspires me the most because ever since he came to coach us when I 12 he as always been there for me and has helped me keep my head up and remember why I play and he brought back the love for the game.
