VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
I want to be able to break the school record in the 110 hurdles that has been standing for 48 years.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My 7th grade year in track I was high jumping and knocked out my tooth. This is one of my best memories because it reflects who I am today. Everyone knows me as the kid who is missing a tooth, and I’m okay with being known as that.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
My good friend Jessie Brannon, she is the one that helped me fall in love with this sport. I’m also kind of running for her because she was never able to compete at state because she had surgery on her ankle and couldn’t run anymore.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
Being a leader and helping the underclassmen that want to look up to me. Help the other kids that want to push themselves in practice.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
I will help out with my church when they do community projects. I will always help out when we have to do stuff with the team because I am doing it to help out not to get recognized.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
I am Student BancFirst Club, and I have recently been a part of BPA.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
The sport has taught me to grow as a character not just in the sport but in the real world also.
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
At state my sophomore year I pulled my hamstring in the prelims of the 110 hurdles. My coach came up to me and said ‘Don’t get depressed on this little setback, come back harder, stronger, and faster next year.’ She knew me and knew that I wouldn’t want to give up so she helped me push my way back up and win state the following year.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
Jessie Brannon, she made the sport fun for me even though I wasn’t much fun when I was younger because I wasn’t placing at meets. She has been there through the past years even though she has been going to college at BYU. She will always be the person I look up to when it comes to growing as a person and growing in the sport that she taught me a lot about.
VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
I would like to thank my Coach Connie Davis, she has been my coach for 5 years now and she has taught me how to be more mature and a leader on a young team today. She is a mentor that I talk to like she is my mom, she will even call me her kid because I am around so much.
