Kenzie Glenny of Tonkawa High School first got involved in FFA when she entered the eighth grade, but she has shown livestock since she was six years old. It was family members who first got her involved in raising livestock and they encouraged her to join FFA.
“My brother and my dad are the ones who pushed me to try it because they told me that I would never know if I liked it if I didn’t try it,” said Glenny.
Now entering her senior year, Glenny said she has enjoyed all the activities the FFA has to offer.
“I show livestock, sometimes judge livestock, and I’ve held the offices of secretary and Vice President of the Tonkawa FFA chapter,” said Glenny. “What I’ve enjoyed most is making new friends, experiencing amazing things with the best people ever, and learning new things every day.”
Glenny enjoys showing cattle, sheep, and goats, but working and showing animals is not the only thing she is involved in at school. Glenny also plays softball, basketball and serves as the manager of the baseball team in the spring.
Throughout her high school career, Glenny said her family has been there to support her and be an inspiration for her to follow.
“My parents have been the biggest influences in my life. They have both survived cancer and the death of a child and they have taught me that sometimes life is tough but with courage and strength you can overcome the trials of life. I’ve learned so many things from them, watching everything they have gone through, and how they both come back so much stronger when you think they should feel defeated,” said Glenny.
The senior offers this advice to anyone who may be interested in joining the FFA.
“I would tell them, that it is hard work and dedication but all of that pays off in the end. Also, that everything you do in the FFA is a joy because the people that are around you make it so special. Every achievement you accomplish they will pick you up or if you feel defeated, they will still pick you up and tell you that you did the best you could and you’ll get them next time,” said Glenny.
