Frontier’s Jamie Molina – Character Counts Presented by 7C Steakhouse

By Derrick Smith

Role models play an important role in the lives of athletes at all levels of competition. But they can be most important to high school athletes because they help shape the person and athlete they become. Jamie Molina says that the person she looks up to the most is someone that has always been there for her.

“My grandma would have to be my biggest role model,” she said. “She is constantly pushing me to do my best and always supports me in every decision I make. I am so thankful for her.”

Molina is a junior at Frontier High School. She is a member of the Lady Mustangs’ softball team, where she plays catcher, shortstop, and utility. She is also a member of the school’s basketball team.

Since she was young, Jamie says that she has loved the game of softball and always enjoys it when she is able to get out on the field.

“I grew up around softball,” she said. “So softball is all that I know. I actually started playing in six and under and I fell in love with it.”

The growth that she has experienced during her career is not something that has just happened. Molina has devoted a lot to improve her game.

“There has been a lot to get me where I am,” she said. “You have to work hard and push yourself to the best of your abilities. You cannot listen to negative people. Instead, keep striving and working towards your goals.”

Throughout her career, Jamie has enjoyed a lot of great personal achievements as well as team accomplishments. But she says that there is one moment that stands out as her favorite.

“My favorite moment of my career was when me and a teammate both hit grand slams in the same game,” she recalled. “It was really awesome to share that moment with her.”

Outside of athletics, Molina is also highly involved around the campus. She is a member of the student council, National Honor Society, Frontier Intertribal Youth Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America program, and the Oklahoma Indian Student Honor Society.
