It’s been a great spring for Chandler High School senior Anna Phillips.
The year started with regional and state competitions for One-Act play, at which, Phillips was named to the All-Star regional cast. She also started a position on the BancFirst student Board of Directors.
“I was also recognized as the Chandler Lion’s Club ‘Lion of the Month’ and Rotary Club Student Rotarian.
Phillips competed with the Business Professionals of America Office Administrative Support team at the state leadership conference and was given the opportunity to travel to Chicago next month to compete at the National Leadership Conference.
She also has maintained her 4.0 GPA and has been named class valedictorian for the CHS class of 2024 and is enrolled for classes at Oklahoma State University next fall, where she has also been admitted to the honors college.
Now. For her athletic accomplishments.
“As a cheerleader, I’ve also competed at competitive cheer, game day cheer and we will end our season with STUNT,” Phillips said.
Phillips also hasn’t finished outside of the top 10 yet in her golf tournaments. It’s a streak she hopes to continue.
“I would like to medal at the 66 Conference golf tournament as well as play well enough to make it to regionals and state,” Phillips said.
Last year, Phillips was the only golfer on her team. One other signed up but did not compete in tournaments.
“Practice consisted of warming up with a bucket of balls at the driving range, then, we’d move to the chipping and putting green, then I would go play a couple holes for extra practice,” Phillips said.
But lacking teammates made for many lonely practices. This year, Phillips has two teammates, and it has made a significant difference.
“Golf is such a mental game with yourself, so at practices or tournaments, when you’re not playing the best, it’s so easy to get frustrated with yourself,” Phillips said. “I can definitely tell a difference with this year, because the girls have helped me stay more positive with my game.”
Phillips didn’t pick up the game; she inherited it.
“My dad and grandparents are golfers, so I have always been around it,” Phillips said. “My dad bought me my first set of clubs when I was 5, so I could play along with them.
“They support me in everything I do and always ask how they can help me achieve the goals I have set myself,” Phillips said.
