Gentry Garner is a multi-sport athlete at Chandler High School. She is a member of the school’s fastpitch and slowpitch softball teams, basketball team, and the cheer squad. Each of her sports requires a different type of preparation, but she says that even in that case, there are some things that they each have in common.
“It takes a lot to be a successful athlete,” the freshman said. “Hard work, dedication, a good support system, and of course practice, practice, practice. I have been lucky to have some really good people in my life. One of the biggest influences in my life has been Carson Jackson. She demonstrates great leadership and really takes the freshman under her wing. She’s a strong Christian student athlete who works very hard in every aspect of her life.”
Along with competing in her sports, Garner is also involved in numerous clubs around campus. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Gifted and Talented, and the National Honor Society.
Throughout her career, Gentry has made many memories with her teammates, but she has one that stands out as her favorite.
“Winning the 2023 fast pitch conference tournament would have to be the highlight moment,” she said. “This was my first tournament win as a Lady Lion.”
When asked who her favorite teacher was, Gentry was unable to come up with one specific teacher, but it is for a good reason.
“There is not just one teacher who has impacted my life,” she stated. “All of my teachers have pushed me to be the best that I can be and they have all taken their time to really get to know me.”
Though she has put in the work to be her best, there are still times when things can get tough. But in those moments, Gentry is motivated by a few things.
“What motivates me the most is my faith, family, and my teammates,” she said. “When I am having a tough time in a game, they help me push through.”
