Mannford Pirates Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by Indian Electric Cooperative

Coach: Mike Banfield

21-22 Record: 20-7

This season marks coach Mike Banfield’s 12th year as head coach and 16th overall, spending four as an assistant prior to taking over the program. After a 20-win season, coach Banfield said the Pirates return a solid nucleus of players this season with some young talent added to the roster. “We have a good nucleus of four seniors that have played a lot the last two years along with some good younger players. We have two returning Tulsa 7 All- Conference players in Trestin Thurman and Tyler Banfield. Our expectations remain high. We have made the area tournament four out of the last five years in Class 4A and hope to have another good season,” said coach Banfield.

Trestin Thurman (6-1, Sr.) is a combo player who can move from guard to forward. Last season he averaged 12 points with 4.0 rebounds per game. “Trestin has been a starter for us the last two years. He was selected to the Tulsa 7 All- Conference Team last season. He is our leading returning scorer. He is able to score the ball in multiple ways including off the bounce, perimeter shooting and posting up,” said coach Banfield.

VYPE Top 100 nominee Tyler Banfield (6-1, Sr.) averaged 10 points and 5.0 rebounds last year. Banfield is one of the best three-point shooters in the conference. “He was selected to the Tulsa 7 All- Conference team last season. He is our leading returning rebounder and has led the team in charges taken the last two seasons. He is a great teammate and student,” said coach Banfield.

Mason Harvey (5-10, So.) is a young player to watch this season. He was named MVP of his freshman team last year and will play a larger role for the varsity this season. Jake Moore (6-3, Sr.) will start at forward where he averaged 6.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest last year. Conner Banfield (5- 11, Sr.) will likely start at guard where he averaged 5.0 points and 2.0 rebounds as a junior.

Other players to watch this season include Kaleb Knidley (6-4, Jr.), Jaiden Egger (5-7, So.), Spencer Norman (6-0, So.), Taven Fentress (6-3, So.), JT Moss (5-11, Sr.), Quincy Ardrey (6- 2, So.), Ryan Owens (5-10, So.), Hank Shasteen (5-10, So.), Boone Hodson (5-9, So.), and Adam Mendenhall (6-1, So.).
