Q&A with Cushing’s Andy Collier – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by

By: Hunter Ferguson

Cushing wrestler Andy Collier spoke to VYPE in a recent interview.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

My personal goals this season was to get on that state podium. I have worked very hard and I felt I deserved it! Another goal was to get to 100 career varsity wins and 100 takedowns this season! I had accomplished every goal I had given myself!

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My Favorite Athletic Memory was definitely getting my 100th win on my very last high school match. I will always remember running over to my coach and hugging him after accomplishing everything I had worked for!

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

The teammate that has left the biggest impact on me is my 2 little brothers. They were both on varsity with me this year and they gave me something to work for. I want to be the best role model for them not only in wrestling but in every aspect of my life!

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part of being on this team is definitely the brotherhood. I love going to war with these dudes and I know we all deserve everything we have worked for. I love leading these men to capabilities among ourselves!

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

I love to just help around the school with whatever needs done. I have helped out with many events for Cushing Highschool and I love to be a part of any help that is needed! I love this town and I love all the people.

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

I have been involved in FCA and Student Council. I love both clubs and I hope I get to go do that amazing stuff in college.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Wrestling has taught me that everything you do in life can’t be halfway. Everything that I do, I strive to do it the best I can. I want the best results in my everyday life, and I want them to be done right. My favorite quote came from one of the best wrestlers of all time, the quote is “Once you have wrestled, everything else in life is easy.” I have experienced life-changing results because of this sport, and I can’t wait to see the results play out in my future!

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

The best advice that anyone has ever given me was from a guy Named Josh Myeres. He said to me “You didn’t get what you wanted, so go get what you deserve.” I have failed my goals many times in the past, and I felt worthless. His words changed my aspect in the sport I love, I know that I work hard and I know that I deserve more than just failure.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

The person who inspires me the most is my Lord and Savior. Everything that I do, I do through him, for him, and with him.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

I would like to shout out Coach P, Coach Fry, Coach Myers, and Coach Morgan. I would also like to shout out my mom, my dad, Owen, and Jake. I love all of you, thank you.
