OFFENSE
The Maroons enter the 2023 season ready to put last year behind them and start fresh. Second-year head coach Brent Parker like the makeup of his team this season. “We have a handful of returning starters on both sides of the ball,” Parker said. “We look forward to getting some players back that were not able to play due to injury.” Quarterback Kevin Rios (6-2, 175, Jr.) will lead the offense. Zaine McDonald (5-8, 185, Sr.) and Jaidren Murray (5-11, 185, Sr.) will be sharing time at running back and will look to find open running lanes and trying to find the end zone. On the outside as a target for Rios will be wide receiver Lane Looper (5-11, 175, Jr.). Anchoring the offensive line will be Landon Barrnett (6-2, 240, Jr.) and Anthony Wiley (6-0, 215, Sr.).
DEFENSE
On the defensive side of the ball, the Maroons will work to be aggressive and physical, and they will work to get to the ball. Patrolling the secondary and looking to shut down opposing offenses will be defensive backs Gavin Schultz (5-9, 175, Sr.) and Zaden Freddricks (6-2, 170, So.) and safeties Rios and Looper. McDonald will be at linebacker and ready to take on anything the defense throws at him. The Maroon’s assistant coaches this season are Marques Odom, Braden Parker, Justin Billingsly, and Marcus Long.
