Drake Hankins is a junior at Blackwell High School. He plays power forward for the Maroons’ basketball team. He says that it takes a lot to be at his best when he hits the court.

“I put in the hard work,” he said. “I go to the gym six or seven days a week and I don’t slack on or off the court.”

Throughout his time playing basketball, Hankins has made a lot of memories. But he has a couple that he would say are his favorite.

“I think the highlight moment of my career was when I scored 24 points against Oklahoma Bible Academy,” he recalled. “That was also big because it was our first win of the season. Another fun memory is anytime we beat Tonkawa. I really enjoy that because we get bragging rights over them until the next game.”

The teammates that he competes alongside have played a big role in his game and his life. He says he appreciates all the guys that are part of the team.

“I think the guy I like going up against the most in practice is Warren Gerboth,” Drake said. “He is the rock of the team and always pushes 100%. Doria Palma is probably an underrated player for us. But he shows up to everything and gives it his all whenever he is on the court.”

Hankins has had a number of people that have had an influence on his life and helped shape him into the person he has become. But he says that there is one person that has played the biggest role.

“I really look up to my dad, as a coach and as a person,” he said. “He is a really great guy.”

When he steps on the court wearing the Maroon uniform, Drake says that it is something that he is proud to be able to do.

“It means everything to me,” he stated. “Blackwell is my home and it always will be.”
