Frontier Basketball Spotlight – Derek Bible – Presented by Tom Henley Shelter Insurance

School pride is something that a lot of students have. Whether it is during athletic competitions or just in everyday life, they are proud to wear their school name and colors. Frontier’s Derek Bible is proud to represent his school and his heritage.

“I am so proud of my community and my school,” he said. “It’s a huge part of how I carry myself when I’m representing Frontier and my native community. I do everything with respect and pride at whatever school event is going on. I have a lot of pride in having Frontier across my chest and also being indigenous.”

As a sophomore, Bible plays basketball and runs track for the Mustangs. In the classroom, he carries a 4.0 GPA and is the vice president of the student council and also the vice president of his class.

Becoming the athlete that he is today is not something that just happened to Derek. He has put in a lot of hard work and says that never giving up has been the key to his success.

“The work is important but there is more that goes into being your best,” he said. “You also have to be dedicated to your sport and consistent in always putting in the work. I have had some really memorable moments playing sports, but my top moment would have to be during the district championship my junior year when I dropped my career high in points.”

While he has put in a lot of work throughout his career, Bible says that his teammates have always been there and he would not be where he is today without them.

“I have some really outstanding teammates,” he said. “The one I enjoy to go up against the most at practice would have to be Allen Jones. He is athletic and very competitive and he makes everyone around him better.”

Outside of sports, Derek is also a member of the Academic Team, student council, the National Honor Society, and the Frontier Inter-Tribal Youth Council.
