Parents devote a lot of time to help their children be successful in whatever they do. Amy Wilcox is the mother of two and she says that with both of her kids being student-athletes, she tries to do what she can to assist the school and their programs.
“I stay involved in my kids activities by offering to help where it’s needed,” she said. “By doing things such as serving on the booster club, bringing snacks, volunteering in the classroom or helping coordinate a cross country race, I want my boys and their peers to have the best experience possible in whatever they are involved in. It takes a small army to pull off most things, so if I can help in any small way, I always try to do so.”
Amy and her husband, Aaron have two sons. Ayson is an eighth grader at East Middle School in Ponca City. He is a member of the cross country and track teams and plays the violin. Fifth grader Axton attends Trout Elementary. He has played soccer and is heavily involved with Evan’s Childrens Academy of the Performing Arts.”
With her sons involved in a number of activities, Wilcox knows it is important to make sure they keep their priorities straight. She also sees their involvement as a way to spend some time with them.
“I feel it’s extremely important to prioritize my boy’s activities,” Amy stated. “Whether it be for academics, sports, or the fine arts, it is such a great way to stay connected with them. I want them to always feel that they are loved and supported in the things they enjoy doing. I hope it builds their confidence because they will always know there is a friendly face in the crowd to share in their successes and failures. I also hope they learn the importance of giving your time to others and the personal fulfillment that comes from that.I’m currently serving as secretary for Ponca City Cross Country Booster Club and serve on several other civic boards in our community including the Community Health Foundation, Oklahoma State University Alumni Association-Kay County Chapter, and the Poncan Theatre.”
