High school students have the opportunity to be involved in numerous clubs and activities. And while being a part of multiple groups can be rewarding, it is important for them not to interfere with school work. Jennifer Sodowsky is the mother of three and she says that keeping her kids on the right track can be vital.
“It’s extremely important to prioritize your child’s activities and I have always tried to do that,” she said. “It shows your child that they are important and that you are there to support them. My daughter Jasmine has played basketball since the third grade and in that time-frame, I have only missed one game. It also takes a lot of time and commitment to go to school ball practices and then extra lessons with a trainer or to travel to Oklahoma City for AAU practices in the evenings. I think this teaches your child to balance their own priorities which in turn teaches them discipline and dedication which will hopefully carry on into adulthood.”
Luker Porter is Jennifer’s oldest child. He graduated from Ponca City High School in 2012 and he rode motocross. Her middle child, Hannah Porter, graduated in 2014 from Ponca City. She played soccer and was a cheerleader and she went on to cheer at Oklahoma State University. Her youngest, Jasmine Sodowsky is currently a sophomore at Ponca City. She plays basketball for the Wildcats and on the Swarm Showcase AAU team. She also races motocross.
Jennifer is the Financial Controller for Greenwood Group, which is a locally owned aerospace company. When she is not working, she finds ways to fill her time.
“In my free time I enjoy watching Jasmine compete in sports,” she said. “She has a very demanding schedule during the offseason for school ball. We hardly have a weekend open between AAU ball and motocross races from April through August. We will travel all over Oklahoma and to Kentucky, Georgia, and Texas this summer to compete.”
The community where she and her family live is something that she is very appreciative of.
“When you live in a small town like Ponca City, High school sports serve as a focal point for community pride. We have friends, family and local businesses that rally behind the team and support Jasmine by attending games or contributing to fundraisers.”
