Sports moms and dads are the unsung heroes of high school sports. Without them, our high school athletes would not be able to compete to the best of their abilities. Karen Hunt is a football and baseball mom at Ponca City High School, and her unwavering dedication to both programs has not gone unnoticed. Her tireless efforts have left a lasting impact on the entire school community.
As a sports mom, Karen finds immense joy and fulfillment in her role. “Being a sports mom is very rewarding,” she said. “From building relationships with the other players and families to seeing them succeed, it’s an incredible experience.”
Her inspiration to be such an involved fan and supporter of her child’s teams stems from her belief in the importance of building strong bonds within the teams and ensuring that every player’s needs are taken care of. “I think that being involved is important in building strong bonds with the team and ensuring extra needs are taken care of,” Hunt said.
Karen’s involvement in the football and baseball programs spans a wide range of activities, from feeding the teams to fundraising. She has been actively engaged from the beginning of child’s sports career. “I knew I wanted to be involved early on,” Hunt said. “It takes a village to make things work.”
Among her cherished memories as a sports mom, Karen treasures the moments when she witnesses her son succeed. “Many favorite memories, but seeing my son succeed is always a joy,” she said.
For Karen, being an involved parent means embracing the spirit of service to others. She believes that her contributions are valued by many, and the success of any program relies heavily on the dedication of parents. “My achievements are shared by many,” Hunt said. “A program is only successful if parents are involved.”
Karen’s involvement and commitment to the sports programs at Ponca City High School exemplifies the positive impact parents can have on their children’s lives and the community as a whole. She encourages others to donate their time to support the youth. “You will never be disappointed by donating your time to our children,” she said. “They learn from example.”
