Ponca City’s Kylie Flowers – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Equity Bank

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Flowers: Tennis has taught me that hard work pays off, and if you don’t work then you won’t get anywhere.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?

Flowers: My favorite part about being on my team is knowing that if I ever need help, they’ll always have my back.

VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?

Flowers: I am so passionate about my sport because it has given me so much. I’ve met countless people, including my best friends and amazing coaches I can rely on for anything.

VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to and why?

Flowers: The athlete I look up to most is Naomi Osaka. She has broken the stigma against mental health, and she is an amazing, powerful woman.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

Flowers: My biggest inspiration is one of my coaches, Emma Kimbrel. She has so much determination, patience, and confidence and I aspire to be like her.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Flowers: The teammate that has left the biggest impression on me is Haley Mills. When I first joined the team, she was one of the first people to make sure I felt comfortable and welcomed, and showed me what it was like to be a tennis player.

VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing your sport?

Flowers: The summer before my freshman year of high school, my friend Kate invited me to do a tennis camp with her. Afterward, she convinced me to join the tennis team. I wasn’t too sure about my decision, but now I know it was the best decision I’ve ever made.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Flowers: I have to shout out my Coach, Lynne Collenback. She has spent countless hours working with me to perfect my game, she always encouraged me and believed in me, and anytime I needed her all I had to do was text her. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if I didn’t have her.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory of playing?

Flowers: My favorite memory of playing tennis has to be when the guys and girls’ teams had one of our last practices before summer. We all played games together, and it was fun to bond as a team.
