Wendy Landes is a teacher and coach at Ponca City High School. While she enjoys her job, there is another role that is more important to her and that is being a mother. She says that she wants her son to always feel supported and loved, no matter what he is involved in.
“My son AJ is a junior at Ponca City,” she said. He plays football, basketball, and runs track. As a parent, you only get a short period of time with your kids before they are grown. I want AJ to always remember I was in those stands and supporting every thing he does.”
A graduate from Jay High School, Wendy played basketball, along with running cross country and track, so it is no question where AJ received his athletic genes from.
Landes teaches science at the high school. She is also the head cross country coach and the assistant track coach.
Along with always being there cheering for her son at the games, Wendy is also active behind the scenes helping when she is able to.
“I go to all of AJ’s games,” she stated. “I stay active in booster clubs and help out the teams any way I can. I am a member of the football booster and president of the basketball booster club.”
The community of Ponca City has been great to Landes and her family and she says that she is thankful for a supportive community.
“Ponca city is all that AJ has ever known,” she said. “It’s nice having him at school with me. Ponca city has a small town feel and people support our athletes.”
When she is not teaching, coaching, or cheering for her son, Wendy says that she enjoys being outside and exercising, but she also loves to draw and paint.
