VYPE: Who has been your favorite coach throughout your career and how did they impact you as a player?
Ja’Kiya: My favorite coach throughout my softball career is Bryan Bolay. He has continued to make me a more confident player and has always given me the best advice.
VYPE: Did you have any teammates that you admire or that supported you?
Ja’Kiya: Audrey Varner’s work ethic and leadership is something I admire. Along with other teammates like Alex Zimmerschied and Mash-ta Littlecook.
VYPE: Who was your favorite teacher and how were they influential in your life?
Ja’Kiya: My favorite teacher was my eighth grade English teacher Mrs.Hampl. She gave me a better understanding of English and inspired my love for books.
VYPE: What preparation have you taken this off-season to better equip yourself for the upcoming season?
Ja’Kiya: This off-season I spent time going to the cages or taking ground balls on my own. I also took time to go to the gym.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Ja’Kiya: My sport has taught me not to dwell on my emotions, to get over it and move on.
VYPE: What has been your favorite memory in your sport?
Ja’Kiya: My favorite memory in my sport would be staying in hotels with my teammates.
VYPE: What do you hope to accomplish this season (individual or team goals)?
Ja’Kiya: This season as a team I hope we make it to state. My personal goal for this season is to have better stats than last year.
VYPE: What matchup are you most looking forward to this season?
Ja’Kiya: The matchup I’m looking forward to the most this season is our game against Jenks.
VYPE: What are your plans after high school?
Ja’Kiya: My plans after high school are to go to college and get a bachelor’s degree to become a math teacher.
