Emma Owens is a junior at Tonkawa High School, where she is a multi-sport athlete. She played softball her freshman year and currently plays basketball, runs track, and is a cheerleader. She switches between guard and post in basketball, which is her primary sport. She is always working hard to get better and improve her skills, and this offseason will be no different.
“I will be putting in the work to get better,” she said. “I will also be going to some basketball camps and some cheer camps, which I will learn a lot from.”
When it comes to what Emma had to say about her team, there were only positives. One thing in particular that Emma enjoys about Tonkawa’s team is their chemistry.
“I love that we all can get along super well and we work together,” she stated. “We all consider ourselves sisters since we’ve been playing together for a while.”
While she enjoys her team, Owens says that she also enjoys being a part of a great school.
“Tonkawa is a great place to be an athlete,” she said. “The coaches care about all of us and they push us to be our best and succeed.
Although sports are incredibly important to her, Emma knows that they are not the only thing that matters.
“My academics are very important to me,” she said. “I know that I need to apply myself in order to go to the next level.”
Emma is very active in the classroom, always aspiring to improve like she does in her sports. Emma also understands that it is important for an athlete to be able to relax and enjoy life as it comes. Hoping to make up lost time after being restricted by the pandemic, Emma says she will be enjoying some fun times this summer.
“I will be going on a family trip, hanging out with friends, and hopefully doing a lot of fun things that I did not get to do last summer.”
