Tonkawa High School senior Karlee Jacobs has a passion for basketball, as a point guard for the Tonkawa Buccaneers. In addition to playing basketball for Tonkawa High School, Karlee also runs track.
When it comes to what it means to represent the Tonkawa Buccaneers, Karlee proclaimed, “It means so much to play for a town that supports our school teams. It makes me want to make them proud.”
Every athlete has something that motivates them to do better. Karlee stated, “What motivates me is losing. I don’t like to lose.”
In regards to what has allowed Karlee to become successful in sports, Karlee stated, “It takes hours of work outside of practice. If I want to be better than everyone else, I have to put more time in than everyone else.”
In terms of a favorite moment during her high school sports career thus far, Karlee said, “The highlight of my career was the district game my senior year of basketball against Pawhuska. We were the underdog going into the game. We fought hard and ended up winning and I hit my 1,000 career points the same night.”
For someone Karlee looks up to as a role model, she looks towards family. Karlee stated, “My older siblings are whom I look up to the most. I push myself so I can try to live up to the expectations they set.”
As for her favorite teacher, Karlee proclaimed, “Mrs. Heinrich has had the biggest impact on me. She works hard even when times may be rough and keeps a smile on her face.”
Off of the basketball court, Karlee is involved in other extracurricular activities. Karlee stated, “I attend my Catholic youth group on Wednesdays and I am a part of The National Honor Society and the Humanitarian Club.”
Karlee plans on pursuing higher education after graduating from Tonkawa High School. Karlee stated, “After high school, I plan to attend Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas to continue my academic and basketball career.”
