Tonkawa’s Lacy Howard Athlete Spotlight Presented by Cowley College

By Jayden Oyler

Lacy Howard, a junior at Tonkawa High School, partakes in a trio of sports and continues to shine in the classroom. Howard plays softball, wrestles, and runs track.

When asked about her proudest accomplishment, Howard spoke passionately about her commitment to academics and athletics. “Working hard in the classroom to maintain good grades and working hard during athletics to continue to improve my skills both academically and physically, is definitely something I am proud of” Howard said.

Howard’s journey through sports has taught her numerous life lessons. “Sports have taught me how to work as a team and how to be a leader,” Howard said. “They have also taught me to have patience on and off the field.”

When asked about her favorite teacher, Howard was eager to share about her teacher who has had an impact on her. “Mrs. Bess, because she is the sweetest teacher with the biggest heart you will ever meet,” Howard said. “She has always strived to help me, even when she didn’t have to.”

Howard draws inspiration from her parents, admiring their work ethics and relentless pursuits of their goals.

Reflecting on her athletic journey, Howard expressed gratitude towards former teammates Kenzie Glenny and Jaci Johnson. “They pushed me to be my best self on, and off the field, no matter what,” Howard said.

Howard takes great pride in representing Tonkawa High School as an athlete. “Putting on the uniform and being part of a team are my favorite parts of representing my school as an athlete,” Howard said. “I love being part of showcasing what our school has to offer and how great our athletic department is, both with student-athletes and coaches.

When it comes to the best advice she has received, Howard shared, “You can’t control what anyone else does, you can only control yourself and what you do next.”

Howard would like to express a thank you to God, her family, and friends for never giving up on her and always supporting her. “They continuously support and encourage me every day,” Howard said.
