Woodland’s Trey Bennett – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Indian Electric Cooperative

By Derrick Smith

Hard work is an important part of being an outstanding athlete. And that is true at all levels of competition. Though there are other things at play, the work that is being invested will go a long way into making the athlete better. Trey Bennett says that when he is working on his game, he keeps one thing at the front of his mind.
“I always want to be better than I was yesterday,” he said. “I work hard each and every day to achieve my goals. Being dedicated and consistent is also very important to being successful.”

Bennett, who is a freshman, plays football, baseball, and basketball for Woodland High School. As a student at Woodland, there is one school that Trey enjoys beating more than any other and he says that he had a big play against them on the football field.

“The Hominy Bucks are the team that I enjoy beating the most,” he said. “I have grown up playing against them since I was in kindergarten, so I know a lot of the players and enjoy beating them. I actually had a 99-yard touchdown off of a turnover against them and that was probably the highlight of my career.”

Throughout his life and career, Bennett has had people that have been a part of his life and helped him become the athlete and the person that he is today.

“My parents have been big role models for me,” he said. “They do so much for me and have always been there in my corner. Also, my coaches have played a huge role in my athletic career. Coach Goad, coach Lockett, coach Potts, coach Brock, and coach Rhodes all push me to be my best. Finally, my teammate Aidain Rhodes. We have a friendly competition of who can be the best and in turn, I think that helps both of us get better and sharpen our skills.”
