OFFENSE
Last season was a tough one for the Coyle Bluejackets, ending with just two wins. But they enter this new season with a fresh slate and third-year head coach Marcus Cooper says that he is excited to see what his squad can accomplish this season. “This team is going to be a lot better than last season,” Cooper said. “We have a lot more experience and we also have good depth in a lot of positions.” The Bluejacket offense will look to run more of a power game behind a stable of solid running backs. Rasheed Davis (Sr.), Xavier Amos (Jr.), and Trace Clark (Jr.) will share the running back duties and work to find the end zone. Working up front to open holes for the running backs and to keep the defenders off of the quarterback will be linemen Gage Wilks (Sr.), Damien King (Sr.), Brandt Pross (Sr.), and Brody Gromes (Sr.). Quarterback Alex Jennings (Jr.) will lead the offense and get the ball to his playmakers or take care of it himself. Coyle also has two receiving threats in tight ends Jordan Williams (Sr.) and Joaquin Amaro (Jr.).
DEFENSE
When it comes to defense, the Bluejackets will run a 3-2 or 3-3 base defense but will make adjustments as necessary according to what the offense throws at them. The defensive line will have a lot of experience with Williams, Wilks, King, Pross, and Gromes. This group has worked hard this offseason and is ready to disrupt the opposing offense. The linebacker position will be taken care of by Xavier Amaro and Joaquin Amaro, both of whom learned a lot from last season and are ready to get things done on the field. Clark, Jennings, and Davis will be responsible for the secondary and working to shut down any thoughts of an opponent’s passing game. Assistant coaches this season will be Ryan Weathers, Chris Jones, and Alex Koehn. On the Bluejacket’s schedule for this season are four 2021 playoff teams.
