OFFENSE
The excitement level in Cushing is building as head coach Rusty Morgan looks to build off a 9-4 season. “This season we will have guys who are ready to compete,” said Morgan. “I think the biggest thing we have to do is take it one workout, practice, game at a time. We will have a good mix of solid returners on both sides of the ball along with some hungry newcomers. This is a group that understands the work that needs to be put in to play at the level that we want to. We are all looking forward to a great season.” Seven starters are back on offense including quarterback Blaze Berlowitz (6-3, 185, Jr.) who put up incredible numbers a year ago with 3,005 yards and 27 touchdowns. A trio of wide receivers are expected to have big years as Camden Crooks (6-0, 185, Jr.), Lane Yaunt (6-3, 175, Jr.) and Brody Berlowitz (6-2, 225, Jr.) are poised for great numbers. Crooks and Yaunt accounted for nearly 1,000 yards each while Berlowitz had 680. Crooks was in double digits for touchdowns with 10. Running back Noah Jones (5-10, 180, Jr.) had 602 yards on 100 carries with seven scores to his credit. The offensive line is anchored by Brody Todd (6-1, 240, Jr.).
DEFENSE
A few guys will play both sides of the ball for the Tigers including Crooks who moves to safety with Yaunt. Crooks accounted for 87 tackles and seven interceptions while Yaunt kept pace with 85 tackles and three interceptions. Jones will play one of the corner spots where he grabbed 56 tackles and made two interceptions. Riley Matheson (6-0, 190, Jr.) is a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. Last year he made 167 tackles with five sacks. Also look for GW Burget (6-0, 170, Jr.) who made 43 tackles as a sophomore. Landon Pyle (6-1, 275, Sr.) is expected to be a force at tackle in the 4-3 scheme. “We will be an attacking defense and use speed in the blitz game and on the edge. We will be gap sound across the board. We will be easily adjustable on the back end to be able to line up to any look and play fast,” said Morgan.
