Davenport junior Peyton Gaylord has been a two-way starter since his freshman year. He plays center and nose guard but might be making a transition to defensive end or linebacker this season. Coaches rave about Gaylord’s effort and say that he does everything possible to make himself a great student-athlete. For Gaylord, the key to being a solid performer starts off the field. 

“It’s as simple as effort, attitude, and technique,” Gaylord said. “One can have all the talent in the world, but won’t be successful unless they have a great work ethic in all aspects of their life.” 

Gaylord doesn’t prioritize personal achievements and always puts the team first. This year he has one goal in mind for the Bulldogs: winning the Gold Ball. 

Gaylord has already experienced some success on the field, but appreciates the moments he gets to share with his teammates. 

“My favorite memory at Davenport is when me and some of my teammates went to eat tacos and then hung out after we beat Garber in the playoffs in my freshman year,” Gaylord said. 

After high school Gaylord wants to continue his playing career at the next level in college where he will continue his education. Outside of football he also plays basketball, baseball, and is a dedicated powerlifter. Gaylord’s dedication to improvement has already paid dividends and helped earn him recognition as a VYPE Top 100 athlete. 

Gaylord said he looks to his dad for support and considers him to be his role model and a source of inspiration. 

“He has always pushed me to be the best in everything that I do,” Gaylord said. “He has always held me accountable. Because of him I’m a better person, player, and most importantly, a better Christian.” 

Look for Gaylord to continue performing at a high level on and off the field in his time at Davenport and for many years to come.
