Glencoe Panthers Basketball Preview – Presented By The Original Hideaway

BOYS
Coach: Jeff Weedn
20-21 Record: 16-9

It’s an exciting time to be a Panther. Under head coach Jeff Weedn, the Panthers have enjoyed success and are poised for another great season. “Glencoe is very excited for the upcoming season,” said coach Weedn. “We return six of our top seven players. Our boys have finished in the Area Tournament the past two seasons and believe we are experienced enough to reach this seasons Class B State Tournament.” Jaken Weedn (6-0, Jr.) averaged 21.5 points a game and hit 42.2 percent from the three-point line. He also grabbed 3.2 steals a game. Fellow guard Brad Reeves (6-0, Sr.) went for 16.7 points and shot 43 percent from three-point land. Jordon Beaver (5-9, Sr.) is another guard who can score and push the pace. Beaver averaged 11 points with 2.4 steals last season. Bryce Coe (6-2, Sr.) is a double-digit scorer from his forward spot averaging 10.1 points a game and carries one of the highest free throw percentages on the team at 73.1 percent. Ryan Cook (5-10, Sr.) is another forward the Panthers will lean on for production. Also look for Tre’ Speer (6-2, Jr.) at guard and Houston Patten (5-10, Sr.) at guard. Both players can average nearly 10 points a game. Jaxton Weedn (6-2, Fr.) averaged 30.1 points in the eighth grade and is expected to make an impact this season on the varsity level.

GIRLS
Coach: Chad Tsotigh
20-21 Record: 12-8

With a young team ready to take the court, head coach Chad Tsotigh is looking for players who are ready to take on the challenge of a challenging varsity schedule. “We are a young team and need girls to step up and fill larger roles within the program,” said coach Tsotigh. “We return two starters from last year’s team and will count on a couple of freshmen to step in and contribute immediately.” Shania Gomez (5-0, Jr.) starts at point guard and is the quickest player on the team. She’s also a reliable shooter. Darcie Green (5-4, Jr.) is a tough and aggressive player from her guard spot. Khloy Guinn (5-5, Sr.) brings a great attitude to the floor and is developing into a real scoring threat. Terra Fenton (5-9, So.) is recovering from an ACL injury and is expected to return this season. She will have a big impact on the team once she is 100 percent. Jayden Pilkington (5-6, So.) is an aggressive, left-handed guard and a great character player. Pilkington will do anything to help this team succeed.
